Barely 24 hours after a similar incident, a dispatch rider was on Tuesday killed in a crash involving a heavy-duty truck at Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat along the Ogudu Toll Gate corridor in Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.
According to the agency, the crash involved a Volvo articulated truck and a dispatch motorcycle, with the rider dying on the spot due to the impact.
LASTMA operatives on routine patrol were said to have responded swiftly, cordoning off the scene to prevent secondary accidents along the ever-busy corridor.
The remains of the victim were handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), while operatives of the Nigeria Police Force from Alausa Division provided security to ensure a smooth evacuation.
The agency added that the truck and the wreckage of the motorcycle were promptly cleared, easing traffic which had earlier built up towards the Berger axis.
Reacting, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and described the incident as deeply troubling.
He warned drivers of articulated vehicles and other road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, stressing that compliance remains critical to reducing fatalities.
“LASTMA remains resolute in its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders in intensifying advocacy initiatives aimed at reducing road fatalities and fostering a sustainable culture of road safety across Lagos State,” he said.
