The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement against traffic violators in a renewed push to eliminate gridlock in major commercial hubs, warning that offenders risk arrest and prosecution.

The crackdown, under “Operation No Traffic Gridlock,” is primarily targeting Sango Ota and Sagamu, where authorities blamed persistent congestion on illegal parking and roadside trading.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement on Saturday, said motorists engaging in double parking, indiscriminate stopping, and loading or offloading passengers on active lanes would be sanctioned.

Traders were also directed to vacate roads and walkways, and restrict their activities to approved market locations.

To drive compliance, traffic personnel, including officers from the Motor Traffic Department and divisional commands, have been deployed to strategic points across Sango Ota, Sagamu, Mowe and Ifo.

While acknowledging that ongoing road construction contributes to congestion in some areas, the Command insisted that adherence to traffic rules would significantly ease vehicular movement.

It added that traffic flow has improved in Mowe and Ifo following enforcement efforts, assuring residents that the gains would be sustained.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, directed full enforcement of the operation, stressing that the Command would not tolerate any act capable of obstructing traffic.

He urged residents to cooperate with officers and report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
