The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Akinola Damilare, popularly known as “General Don”, for allegedly impersonating military personnel in Abeokuta.
Damilare was arrested at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta, following intelligence provided by a community leader and subsequent surveillance by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists, saying the operation led to the recovery of items believed to be connected with the alleged impersonation.
The recovered items included a military face cap, three-quarter military trousers and four photographs showing the suspect dressed in military uniform.
The statement said the arrest followed discreet surveillance by the SWAT operatives after the Command received credible intelligence from the community leader.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to tackle impersonation and other criminal activities in the state.
He urged residents to promptly report suspicious conduct to the police, stressing the importance of public cooperation in tackling crime.
The police said investigation was ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether other persons were connected to the case.
