Two persons have died while two others sustained serious injuries in a road crash involving a commercial bus and a pickup van along the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, October 18, saying its operatives coordinated rescue operations and facilitated the evacuation of the victims.

The crash involved a Suzuki commercial bus with registration number KTU 333 YF and a pickup van. The two injured victims, a male and a female, were rushed to the General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical attention.

LASTMA operatives evacuated the bodies of the deceased and handed them over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), popularly known as SHEMU.

The authority also handed over the vehicles involved in the crash and the Suzuki bus driver to security personnel from the Yaba Police Division, who provided security and maintained order at the scene until the rescue and recovery operations were concluded.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy and complete recovery.

He urged motorists to exercise greater vigilance, comply with traffic regulations and observe prescribed speed limits to prevent avoidable road crashes.

Bakare-Oki stressed that responsible driving, sustained concentration and caution were essential to reducing road traffic collisions and their devastating consequences.

LASTMA also advised motorists to maintain safe following distances, avoid reckless manoeuvres and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy, urging all road users to prioritise safety and respect human life.
