The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has unveiled activities for its 2026 Press Week, with former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, scheduled to deliver the public lecture.
The week-long event, scheduled for September 28 to October 4, will bring together journalists, media professionals, students, industry experts and other stakeholders for activities aimed at promoting professional excellence, fostering unity and strengthening relationships within the media community.
Peterside will deliver the public lecture on Wednesday, September 30, at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, by 10 a.m.
The lecture, with the theme, “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth,” is expected to attract maritime experts, media practitioners, journalism students, policymakers, industry players and other stakeholders.
The Press Week will commence on Monday, September 28, with a Health and Awareness Walk, while other activities have been scheduled to run throughout the week.
Speaking on the forthcoming event, Chairman of the NUJ Lagos State Council, Adeleye Ajayi, described the Press Week as an important annual tradition that provides journalists from different media organisations an opportunity to interact, fraternise and strengthen professional relationships.
Ajayi said the event was particularly important because journalists, despite their demanding responsibilities, also needed opportunities to come together and build stronger bonds.
“This is a yearly event that brings journalists from different media houses under one roof.
“As journalists, we go the extra mile to report issues affecting other people and society at large. Therefore, coming together to interact, fraternise and strengthen our bond is not out of place,” he said.
According to him, the council would do everything within its reach to ensure that the 2026 edition remained one of the best.
The programme will continue on Thursday, October 1, with the Chapel Rendezvous at the LTV premises by 4 p.m., while the Juma’at Service will hold on Friday, October 2, at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque, CBD, Alausa, Ikeja, by 1 p.m.
A Gala and Awards Night is also scheduled for the BOS Hall, LTV Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja, on Friday by 4 p.m.
The week-long celebration will climax on Sunday, October 4, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Christ the Light (Interdenominational), CBD, Alausa, Ikeja, beginning at 10 a.m.
The council urged journalists across Lagos State to participate actively in the various activities, noting that the Press Week would provide an opportunity for media practitioners to network, exchange ideas, strengthen professional bonds and reflect on the contribution of journalism to the growth and development of society.
The statement was signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Press Week Committee, Adewale Akodu and Moses Omorogieva, respectively.
