Lagos DSVA takes anti-violence campaign to Lagos Island

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has taken its campaign against domestic and sexual violence to Lagos Island, urging residents and stakeholders to strengthen collective efforts to prevent violence and support survivors.

The Agency disclosed this in a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs Unit, Lagos DSVA, Onadipe Opebere, and made available to journalists on Monday, September 14, 2026, following an Advocacy Walk held on Lagos Island as part of activities marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

The walk, held on Friday, September 11, 2026, commenced from SURA Primary Health Centre and ended at the Lagos Island Local Government, where participants were received by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan.

The walk was flagged off by the Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Lagos Island Constituency I, Hon. (Dr.) Princess Lara Oyekan-Olumegbon, who stressed the need for sustained advocacy, community participation and collective responsibility in tackling domestic and sexual violence.

She was joined by the APC candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly, Lagos Island Constituency II, Hon. Yunus Abiodun Nurudeen.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District IV, Dr. Abimbola Bowale, highlighted the critical role of the health sector in responding to cases of domestic and sexual violence and stressed the need for victims and survivors to receive timely, compassionate and appropriate care.

The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to taking the message of prevention and zero tolerance for domestic and sexual violence directly to communities.

Vivour-Adeniyi said the awareness month provided an opportunity to deepen conversations around violence, encourage victims and survivors to speak up, and remind residents that everyone has a role to play in preventing violence and supporting those affected.

The advocacy walk brought together government officials, stakeholders, advocates, community members and other participants, who marched through the community while sharing messages on prevention, reporting and support for survivors.

The community engagement also provided an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to interact directly with the Agency, with emphasis on early reporting, community vigilance and collective action in addressing domestic and sexual violence.

The DSVA said the exercise further reinforced the Lagos State Government’s commitment to sustained public awareness, prevention, survivor support and coordinated action towards ending domestic and sexual violence across the state.
