The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges in a follow-up operation linked to a robbery incident reported in April 2026.

The suspects, Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48, were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Robbery Team at their respective hideouts in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road, Ota, Ogun State, and in the Command area of Lagos State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, saying the arrests followed sustained tactical intelligence and operational follow-up after the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix vehicle involved in the April robbery.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects, alongside other members of their gang, allegedly masterminded the April robbery and participated in a series of armed robbery operations and violent vehicle snatching across Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan areas of Ogun State.

Babaseyi said a thorough search conducted after the suspects were arrested led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.

He added that the suspects, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to their involvement in various armed robbery crimes in the region and were cooperating with detectives by providing information that could assist the ongoing investigation.

The Police spokesman said efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate for possible prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its tenacity, operational efficiency and commitment to follow-up investigations.

Ojajuni said the recovery of the firearms and arrest of key members of the syndicate underscored the Command’s determination not to leave any criminal investigation incomplete.

He reassured residents of the state of the Command’s resolve to dismantle armed robbery networks and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities in their communities.

The Command advised residents to use the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, or its emergency lines, 09164859299 and 09154293464, to provide useful information to the Police.
