The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a “one-chance” robbery syndicate operating in the Abeokuta metropolis.

The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Bidemi Tijani and 42-year-old Olajide Rasaq, were arrested on August 15, 2026, after operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) intercepted the vehicle in which they were travelling following an intelligence tip.

The suspects were allegedly members of a syndicate that disguises its members as commercial taxi operators to rob unsuspecting passengers of their phones, cash and other valuables.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babasiyi, said the police received actionable intelligence that members of the syndicate had been sighted in a taxi heading towards Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta.

According to him, VCRU operatives immediately swung into action and engaged the suspects in a hot chase before successfully intercepting the vehicle and arresting the two men.

Babasiyi said the suspects were subsequently interrogated and allegedly confessed to being active members of the “one-chance” robbery syndicate terrorising commuters in the Abeokuta metropolis.

He said efforts had been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, establish the full extent of their operations and recover relevant exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the VCRU operatives for their swift response, vigilance and professionalism.

Ojajuni, according to the statement, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements, warning that perpetrators of crime would find no safe haven in Ogun State.

He also urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or criminal activities to the police without delay.

The Command provided the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, and emergency numbers 09164859299 and 09154293464 for members of the public to contact the police.
