Customs disburses N7.61bn pension to 4,237 retirees

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has released N7.61 billion to nine Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) for the payment of pension benefits to 4,237 retired officers across the country.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, said the funds had already been remitted to the PFAs for onward payment into the retirees’ individual accounts, assuring that the Service would continue to prioritise the welfare of its former personnel.

The disclosure was contained in a statement made available to journalists on Friday following a dialogue between the Comptroller-General and retired Customs officers held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Adeniyi said the Service remained committed to meeting its obligations to both serving and retired officers, stressing that the welfare of personnel who had devoted decades to the organisation was crucial to its future.

“The welfare of those who dedicated decades of service to the Nigeria Customs Service cannot be separated from the future of the institution,” he said.

The Customs boss also urged retirees to maintain constructive engagement with the Service, saying the dialogue was convened to address their concerns and curb the spread of rumours and misinformation.

“I acknowledged your concerns and suggestions raised, and it is in view of this we called for this dialogue to promote better understanding and reduce the effect of rumours and unofficial information on the relationship between the Service and its retired personnel,” Adeniyi added.

A breakdown of the beneficiaries showed that Access-ARM Pension Managers accounted for 1,223 retirees, Premium Pension had 2,268, Leadway Pensions 403, TrustFund Pensions 156, FCMB Pensions 144, Veritas Glanvills Pensions 28, Norrenberger Pensions 11 and Fidelity Pension Managers four.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Development, DCG Tijjani Abe, and other members of the management team, who assured the retirees that issues raised during the engagement would receive due attention.

The retirees commended the Comptroller-General and the management for creating a platform for direct engagement and appealed for the dialogue to be sustained to further strengthen relations between serving officers and retirees.
