The Lagos State Police Command has organised a sensitisation programme on insurance and welfare schemes for its officers as part of efforts to improve the welfare and financial security of personnel.
The programme, held at the command headquarters in Ikeja, was in line with the welfare initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and featured a lecture on the various insurance and welfare packages available to members of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the lecture was delivered by ACP Ameh Lydia of the Force Insurance Section.
According to Adebisi, the resource person highlighted the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police and the Force Insurance Section to the welfare of officers and men of the Force, while explaining the structure and functions of the section.
She said officers were educated on several welfare and insurance schemes, including the Group Life Assurance Scheme, the Nigeria Police Welfare Insurance Scheme, the Group Personal Accident Scheme, the IGP Family Welfare Insurance Scheme and the newly introduced Voluntary Contributions Scheme.
ACP Lydia explained that the Voluntary Contributions Scheme provides personnel with an additional opportunity to strengthen their welfare and financial security.
She also briefed the officers on the ongoing sale of shares of the Nigeria Police Force Insurance Company, urging interested personnel to take advantage of the investment opportunity.
Speaking at the programme, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the Inspector-General of Police for prioritising the welfare of police personnel and lauded the Force Insurance Section for organising the sensitisation exercise.
He urged officers to maximise the benefits provided by the insurance and welfare schemes.
“Improved welfare remains essential to enhancing morale, productivity and effective service delivery,” the commissioner said.
The command said the sensitisation exercise forms part of sustained efforts to ensure police personnel are well informed about welfare initiatives designed to improve their wellbeing and support them during and after service.
