The Lagos State Government has commenced major infrastructure and staff welfare projects at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital as part of efforts to strengthen tertiary healthcare delivery in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing highlighting the achievements of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Abayomi said ongoing projects at the hospital include the construction of a new stroke centre, paediatric oncology building, dental centre and Eye Institute annex aimed at improving specialised healthcare services.
He added that work is also progressing on the expansion of the psychiatry ward, extension of the main theatre office and construction of an Imperial Suite building.
The commissioner further revealed that the government has completed a 72-room accommodation facility for house officers at LASUTH to improve the welfare and working conditions of healthcare personnel.
According to him, staff quarters at Gbagada, Ojo and LASUTH are nearing completion, while plans are underway for the construction of a 10-floor resident doctors’ quarters within the hospital complex.
Abayomi said the state government has adopted a policy requiring future medical facilities to include staff accommodation located close to hospitals and healthcare centres.
He noted that the projects would improve healthcare delivery, enhance emergency response and support the retention of medical professionals in the state.
