Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects over alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearm following an intelligence-led operation in Ifo area of the state.
The suspects, Adeola Mathew, 47, and Rasheed Omoniyi, 48, were arrested after detectives attached to the Ifo Division raided a criminal hideout along Ibogun Road, NITEL Area, Ifo, at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday.
A locally made pistol was recovered during the operation.
According to a statement made available to journalists on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Adeola was arrested at the scene, while the firearm was recovered during a search of the premises.
The statement added that preliminary investigation revealed that the weapon was allegedly handed over to Adeola by Rasheed, who was later tracked and apprehended by the police.
“The recovered locally made pistol has been secured as exhibit, while investigation is ongoing to ascertain the source of the firearm and the suspects’ possible involvement in other criminal activities,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
