By Adebola Isimijola, Lagos

The Lagos State Government has announced the emergency closure of the outbound lane of Eko Bridge for safety investigations and repair works, beginning from Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

According to a statement made available to journalists on Sunday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the affected section of the bridge is between Apongbon and Ijora Olopa.

Osiyemi advised motorists heading towards Lagos Island to use the Third Mainland Bridge as an alternative route during the period of the closure.

“In view of the closure between Apongbon and Ijora Olopa, members of the motoring public are advised to use the Third Mainland Bridge to access their desired destinations,” he said.

He added that the inward Lagos Island carriageway would remain open to traffic throughout the repair period.

The commissioner also assured residents that traffic management and security personnel would be deployed along alternative routes to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

“Adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow,” Osiyemi stated.
