Gunmen kill bride’s father, another at Lagos wedding After-Party

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 54-year-old man, Durosimi Anthony Taiwo, and another yet-to-be-identified victim following a violent attack at a wedding after-party in Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The Command said Taiwo was shot alongside a young man, believed to be about 30 years old, whose name and address are yet to be ascertained, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The attack occurred on Saturday at Oviawe Street, off Governor’s Road, shortly after a wedding ceremony during an after-party attended by guests.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that suspected cultists stormed the venue and opened fire, causing panic as attendees fled for safety.

Sources said a hypeman, identified simply as Victor, was performing when the attackers invaded the event centre and began shooting.

Witnesses said the gunmen allegedly targeted the entertainer, dragging him into the street where he was assaulted.

It was further gathered that Taiwo, believed to be the bride’s father, was shot while attempting to intervene during the attack.

Both victims were said to have died at the scene.

The incident threw the Ikotun community into panic, forcing residents and business owners to shut down abruptly.

Community sources suggested the attack may be linked to ongoing cult-related clashes in the area rather than the wedding ceremony itself.

They noted that the area has witnessed repeated cult violence, with innocent persons often caught in the crossfire.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene as chaotic, saying guests scattered immediately the shooting began.

A neighbour identified as Steve said the younger victim, believed to be the hypeman, was a familiar face in the area and known as a young entertainer.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated that the case is under investigation.
