Ogun Police foil hostel robbery, arrest two suspects

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a robbery operation at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro, arresting two suspects and recovering 11 assorted iPhones, an HP laptop and other stolen items.

The suspects, identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun, were arrested in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, after the police responded to an anonymous distress call reporting an armed robbery at a student hostel in the community.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Wednesday, the incident occurred at about 2:40 a.m., when an armed gang reportedly invaded the hostel and robbed students of their valuables.

Babaseyi said operatives of the Ewekoro Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, were promptly dispatched to the scene following the distress call.

He said the suspects, on sighting the approaching police operatives, abandoned their loot in a school bag and attempted to flee the area.

The police team, however, gave them a hot chase and succeeded in apprehending two members of the gang.

A subsequent search of the abandoned school bag, the PPRO said, led to the recovery of 11 assorted iPhones, one HP laptop and various items of clothing.

He added that some of the victims had since identified the recovered property as their belongings.

Preliminary investigation, according to the police, also revealed that the robbers allegedly forced one of their victims to transfer N200,000 into an account during the operation.

Babaseyi said detectives had visited the crime scene, documented evidence of forced entry and secured the recovered exhibits as part of the ongoing investigation.

He added that search warrants executed at the residences of the two suspects did not yield any further incriminating items.

The PPRO said the suspects and recovered property were being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution.

He further disclosed that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who fled the scene, as well as locate the owner of the account into which the N200,000 was allegedly transferred.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ewekoro operatives for their vigilance and timely response to the distress call.

Ojajuni, according to the statement, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting students, residents and communities across the state, assuring them of the police’s resolve to tackle criminal activities.

The Command also urged operators of off-campus student hostels and landlords to maintain emergency contact numbers and promptly report security threats or suspicious activities.
