“I Thought I’d dance with the belt, but ended up celebrating my new baby” __ Portable

“I thought I was going to dance with the belt, but I ended up celebrating my new baby,” were the words of controversial Afrobeats artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, hours after his defeat to Carter Efe in a celebrity boxing bout in Lagos.

The singer, who had gone into the contest with high expectations, said he found greater fulfilment in the birth of his son, which coincided with the fight.

Portable lost to Carter Efe by unanimous decision at the “Chaos in the Ring 4” event held on Friday at Balmoral Hall, bringing an end to his unbeaten run in celebrity boxing.

Despite expressing disappointment over the outcome, the artiste maintained that the arrival of his child outweighed the loss.

“My wife just gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. I value that more than a belt. You can buy a belt, but not my child,” he said.

He, however, alleged that the result of the bout was unfair, though the judges’ decision remained unchanged.

Portable further disclosed that his wife, Omobewaji Ewatomi, was in labour while he was in the ring.

“While my wife was in labour, I was fighting… she gave birth to a boy,” he added.

Omobewaji confirmed the birth in a social media post, expressing gratitude with “Alhamdullillah,” and indicating that the newborn has been named Jamal Iremide.

The development adds to the singer’s growing family. Portable, known for his controversial lifestyle, has multiple children from different relationships and has previously stated his intention to marry more wives.
