The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Ogun State Police Command for the swift rescue of five abducted students of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade.

The students’ body, in separate statements on Wednesday, described the operation as prompt, coordinated, and intelligence-driven, noting that it reflects the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property.

NANS National Public Relations Officer, Comr. Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, said the rescue brought relief to students nationwide.

“We received with relief and appreciation the news of the rescue operation carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni. The swift response, professionalism, and gallantry displayed by the tactical units involved reflect a commendable commitment to the protection of lives and property within Ogun State,” Ajasa said.

He added that the involvement of specialised units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and SWAT, ensured the safe recovery of the victims.

“This operation stands as a strong message to criminal elements that acts of lawlessness will not go unchecked,” he said.

In a related statement, the Executive Director of Special Duties, NANS Southwest (Zone D), Comr. Salako Olawale Ayomipo, also praised the police, describing the rescue as a demonstration of professionalism and courage.

“The timely intervention and coordinated operation carried out by the tactical units under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police stand as a remarkable demonstration of professionalism, courage, and commitment towards public safety,” Ayomipo stated.

He noted that the operation, which recorded no casualty among security operatives, underscores the importance of proactive policing and intelligence gathering in tackling crime.

Both NANS bodies, however, urged the police to sustain efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

They also called on students and residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
