The Police Service Commission has condemned the alleged extrajudicial killing of a 28-year-old man, Mene Ogidi, by police officers in Effurun, Delta State, vowing that those responsible will be held accountable.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission described the incident, which occurred on April 26, 2026, as a violation of Nigerian laws and international humanitarian standards.
“The act violates Nigerian laws and international humanitarian standards, including the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended), the Anti-Torture Act 2017, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, the Nigeria Police Act 2020, and the Nigeria Police Force Regulations 2025,” the Commission said.
The PSC commended the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for initiating disciplinary measures against the officers involved, noting that they have been suspended and interdicted pending the outcome of investigations.
“The Commission commends the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, for commencing disciplinary action against the officers involved, including their suspension and interdiction pending a thorough investigation,” the statement added.
The Commission also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to remain calm.
“The Commission extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and enjoins members of the public to remain calm as justice takes its course,” it stated.
The statement was signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, on behalf of the Chairman of the Commission.
