Just in: Obaseki joins PDP in Edo

The embattled Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State.

Obaseki arrived the secretariat of the party in Edo where he was received by PDP National Vice Chairman, Southsouth of the party, Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, who was accompanied by Edo PDP chairman Dr. Tony Aziegbemi; members of the State Working Committee (SWC) and some chieftains of the party.

The governor who arrived the secretariate at exactly 1.15PM was not accompanied by his deputy, Philip Shaibu but large supporters amidst jubilation from some members of the PDP.

It was however gathered that the Deputy Governor would be at the secretariat in Benin for formal defection later on Friday.

The Edo governor, on Monday announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), three days after the party’s screening committee disqualified him from partaking in its primaries elections over issues bordering on academic qualification.

Besides, Obaseki has been embroiled in a protracted political battle with Adams Oshiomhole, the suspended national chairman of APC.

He is expected to contest the PDP governorship primaries scheduled for Tuesday.
