The council of Ulamas of the Ilorin Emirate in Kwara state, says the mosques will not reopened following the conditions given by the state government for reopening of worship centres in the state.
The council of ulamas, in a statement signed by its secretary, Justice Salihu Oloruntoyin Mohammed (rtd) says the conditions, owing to peculiarities of the Ilorin Emirate, would be difficult to meet.
The state government had given conditions for reopening of the centres, asked that children, women and men above 65 years of age should not go for services at the worship centres.
The council which made its position known shortly after the state government directed conditional reopening of the worship centres, urged the government to allow jumat mosques remain closed until a review of the guidelines.
The council explained that the imams in most of their mosques who lead the jumat prayers were persons of over 65 years of age.
The council noted that the actions are taken in line with the safety protocols of the federal government and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC).
