The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party have fixed a date for governorship primaries in Ondo.
According to a notice signed by the APC National Organising Secretary, Emma Ebediro, Ondo state primary will hold on Monday July 20, 2020 while PDP primary will come two days after, on July 22, 2020 for the October 10 Ondo State governorship election.
The APC’s notice however silent whether it will adopt direct or indirect system of primaries as interested aspirants will pay N22.5million for nomination form and other charges.
Meanwhile the opposition PDP’s notice was contained in the programme schedule of the party signed by National Organising Secretary of the party, Col. Austin Akobundu(retd) and made available to newsmen in Akure, the state capital.
According to Col. Akobundu, PDP gubernatorial primary election would be conducted by the party’s Gubernatorial Electoral Committee.
The PDP primary election schedule revealed that the last day for the submission of the names of the governorship candidate and the deputy candidate to the INEC is on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.
According to the programme schedule, the last day for withdrawal and replacement of withdrawn candidate(s) by National Working Committee of the party is August 18, 2020.
Independent National Electoral Commission, had yesterday stated that there was no plan to postpone the governorship elections earlier scheduled in Edo and Ondo states.
