BREAKING: N4.3b: Armed policemen surround Speaker’s Lodge as lawmakers hold meeting

…amid claims that the Governor vowed to stop legislative sitting in the hallowed chamber to curb further probes of the N4.3b.

The official residence of the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, at Alagbaka in Akure, is currently under the siege of armed mobile policemen.

Members of the House of Assembly are currently holding their Parliamentary Meeting at the Speaker’s Lodge but were surprised to see themselves surrounded by armed mobile policemen.

The invasion of the Speaker’s Lodge by the police may be connected to the ongoing investigation into the alleged N4.3b secret account deal of the state government by the lawmakers.

There have been rumours that some members of the Assembly may be planning to move the motion for the impeachment of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over the secret account deal but the Speaker at the weekend denied such plans.

TRACE gathered that the decision to send armed mobile policemen to the lawmakers’ meeting was made in an effort to whip the lawmakers into line and stop them from continuing with the secret account probe.

This development however corroborated a report that the Executive arm of Ondo State government led by Akeredolu and the legislative arm of the state are set for another showdown any moment from now.

The report alleged that the governor in its bid to stop further facts from been unveiled by the legislators had vowed to use all available means to stop the legislators from sitting in the hallowed chamber.

According to sources close to the parties, the decision of the State House of Assembly to carry out oversight functions into the activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government which the executive thought was a joke is now reality.

Earlier before now, the members of the House of assembly had passed resolutions that none of its members should be seen attending any function of the executive arm of government.

Just last week, the House of Assembly invited the Commissioner of finance to the plenary where a shocking revelation of secret account with four billion naira was discovered and same spent by the executive without appropriation.

Embarrassingly, thirty five percent of the money was used by the governor to pay consultancy fee to a company handling the IGR of the state with the son of the governor Babajide allegedly having a vested interest in the company.

This discovery by the legislators is now prompting them to look deeper into the financial records and dealings of the state with OSOPADEC been the next place of call.

These evolving events according to an undisclosed source are giving the governor a sleepless night as interest groups and civil society organizations are already compiling facts to petition EFCC.

Sequel to these developments, the governor in its bid to stop further facts from been unveiled by the legislators had vowed to use all available means to stop the legislators from sitting in the hallowed chamber.

To ensure that the legislators will not converge to discuss, members of the NURTW have been mobilized to storm the House of Assembly complex and maim any of the members seen during their sitting.
