Sunday Adefonou Anani, the 22-year-old Togolese cook, who allegedly murdered his boss, Opeyemi Badamosi, Chairman of Credit Switch Technology, is dead.
Vanguard reports that Anani’s counsel got a message on Wednesday morning that the suspect is dead.
Details of the death are still sketchy at the moment.
The late suspect was charged with one count of murder which was allegedly committed on October 31, 2018, at Badamosi’s resident at 3b, Onikoyi Lane, Parkview Estate Ikoyi Lagos. The charge stated that Anani, in order to rob, stabbed the deceased to death with a kitchen knife.
According to the charge, the offence is contrary to section 222 and Punishable Under section 223 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.
The police Prosecutor, Mr J.I Eboseremene had told the court that he had an application to remand the suspect in prison custody under section 115, of the administration of criminal justice law and 264, of adminstration of criminal justice law 2015.
The Lagos state police command had said it was able to establish a prima facie case of murder against the suspect with intent to steal from his deceased boss.
The news of Anani’s death in police custody emerged on Tuesday afternoon. It was the second curious death of a suspect in police custody in recent times.
Only last week, it emerged that the gang leader in the Offa Bank robbery who implicated Senate President Bukola Saraki in his testimony, had also died in police custody.
The News which prompted the Senate President to however called on the Presidency to institute a judicial inquiry into the ‘how and when’ Michael Adikwu, the principal suspect in the deadly bank robbery attacks in Offa, Kwara State, on April 5, 2018, died.
Anani reportedly stabbed Bademosi thrice on the chest on October 31 – three days after he was employed.
He was said to have sneaked into the deceased’s room to perpetrate the act moments after the victim’s wife left the house to keep up with an appointment.
The Togolese fled the house with some valuables after committing the crime.
He was later arrested in Ondo on November 2 – two days after killing Bademosi.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, in a statement had said Anani singlehandedly tied his boss hands and stabbed to death with a kitchen knife, while attempting to rob him.
Oti stated that the 22-year-old suspect, who took advantage of his boss wife’s absence from home, allegedly broke into Bademosi’s bedroom to perpetrate the crime.
He said, “The journey that eventually ended the life of Opeyemi Bademosi, an Ondo State indigene, began in the deceased’s hometown, Ondo town, on Thursday, October 25, 2018, when one Kofi Friday, 27, returned from Togo to Nigeria and called his compatriots, including the murder suspect, Sunday Anani, 22, to his house at the Yaba area of Ondo town, where he told Anani that he had through the assistance of a friend, Agbeko Ayenahin, helped him secure a job as a cook in a rich man’s house in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.”
Consequently, the Ondo Ekimogun Youths Congress issued a Press Release 18th November, they rejected the report in its entirety, that some lines were missing in the Police report and demanded a detailed version. Excerpt:

We are worried about the dangerous silence from the Nigeria police force on the reason(s) why our late Chief’s security and cook were sacked few days before his murder.
