A political tsunami on Wednesday hit the camp of the National Assembly member representing Ondo Northern Senatorial District, Senator Ajayi Boroffice as the major financier of the group, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole, a.k.a Amaechi defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The young vibrant politician, (Kolawole), who is currently representing the people of Akoko South East/Akoko South West at the House of Representatives announced his defection at the floor of the lower chamber.

Kolawole’s decision to pitch his tent with the PDP, may not be unconnected to the fact that he was unable to secure return ticket to the National Assembly.

According to sources within their camp, Kolawole felt he was betrayed by his political godfather, (Boroffice) who was able to secure a return ticket for himself, while he Kola was left with his fate.“How are you expecting Amaechi to continue following such heartless man that only listen to instruction from his wife? He has betrayed that young man and I think he deserves our loyalty” the source said.

The source recalled that he (Amaechi) spent all his resources on the ambition of Boroffice in 2016 during the APC governorship primary election where the senator came distance fourth.

“I can’t be telling how Kolawole wasted millions of naira on the fruitless ambition of Boroffice in 2016. He even constructed some projects in Akoko and named them after Boroffice in order to boost the political image of his boss.

“Apart from this, you know our people don’t like going to Boroffice’s house because of the attitude of his wife and due to this, most of the political followers of the Senator are always taken care by Kolawole, who will feed them and also give them cash just to boost the governorship ambition of the senator”, another competent source said.

It could be recalled that Babatunde Kolawole is one of the two members of the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who on Wednesday announced their defection from the party.

Babatunde Kolawole who is currently representing Akoko South East/ West Federal Constituency of Ondo State while Mukaila Kazzim represents Abeokuta North/ Obafemi-Owode/ Odeda Federal Constituency of Ogun State, made their resignations known in separate letters to the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

Dogara read the letters at plenary on Wednesday.

While Kolawole announced his defection to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his counterpart, Mr. Kazzim, did not state the party he is defecting to.

In the letters, both lawmakers pointed to unreconcilable issues affecting the APC from its primaries as part of the reasons for their defection.

Kazzim stated that “god-fatherism” played a vital role in who emerges as candidates to represent the party in the 2019 general election. He said that it was not only undemocratic, but also goes against relevant sections of the constitution.

The House had in the last one month witnessed several defections after dozens of members, mostly from the ruling APC defected to other parties in August.
