Lifeless body of Ala Madinat

Fear of the unknown on Wednesday gripped residents of Okeegbe community of Ikare Akoko in Akoko North East local government area of Ondo State following the gruesome killing of a 70 years old woman identified as Ala Madinat by suspected ritualists.

If Mrs. Ala Madinat, a 70 year old woman of No: E/97t Okeegbe Ikare in Akoko North East local government area of Ondo State had known that she would be brutally murdered perhaps she wouldn’t have opened her door to sell for the knocker last night when she met her death.

The barbed Dada and her mum

It was gathered that the grandchild of the victim, named Dada, of about 4 years old, who was living with her also fell victim as his ‘Dada hair’ was barbed part of which was said to have been taken by the ritualists.

Meanwhile, a 75 year old neighbor, woman, Abdul Karim Awawu who was said to have heard some strange sounds coming from her (Ala Madinat) room and decided to ascertain what was happening, had her head smashed with a pestle by the perpetrators.

At the daybreak, she (Awawu) was subsequently taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare where she was given first aid before being transferred to Federal Medical Center, Owo for a better treatment as her injury was said to be severed.

The corpse and mutilated body of the old woman, KAKAKI NEWSPOT gathered, was discovered inside her room by neighbors who raised the alarm that attracted residents of the areas to the scene in the early hours of Wednesday

One of the deceased son who didn’t want his name in Print, spoke to KAKAKI NEWSPOT. He said, “We were called in the early hours of today that she had been murdered in cold blood, the assailants removed vital parts of her body.”

In the same vein, Mr. Karim A. Abdul, 50, Awawu first son revealed that he was in his farm settlement when message got to him this morning that his mother had been killed, on getting there, he discovered she was still breathing and therefore rushed her to the hospital.

He explained that the hospital had given the victim first aid treatment before advising that she should be taken to a higher medical institution for further and proper treatment that her injury was too deep, “but we’ll take her to FMC OKENE,” he added.

Meanwhile other people living in the house including the Landlord son who is an Okada rider were said to have denied hearing any strange movements last night until they were thrown into shock when the bodies of the victims were discovered this morning.

As at the time of filling this report, residents of the area and many others were seen discussing the incidents while no suspects have so far been arrested in connection to the unspeakable crime.

Her shocking killing comes barely months after three female mad persons were killed in the same manner consecutively.

Speaking with KAKAKI NEWSPOT, the Owa Ale of Ikare, Oba SKA Adedoyin who used the incident to justified his being an apostle of state police, said “it’s rather unfortunate and anathema to the course of Ikare people which must be condemned in it entirety and I hope the law enforcement agency will see to the root of the matter.”

The monarch affirmed that state policing is the only way the security of lives and property can be ensured.

He said, “there are many advantages of State policing, known as community policing in some society, a policeman supposed to know the nook and cranny of his society as well as the people of the area.

“So if you bring someone from Kaura Namoda or Port Harcourt who doesn’t know the terrain of this area or even speak the language, policing effectively would be difficult for such person.” Adding that police recruitment should be decentralized and localized.

“In the western world, police don’t have settlements, they live among the people, they know who are the criminals within, but here, they fence an area and call it police barrack, how will officers know the terrain of the community they are policing?

“Although some people are of the opinion that politicians may abuse their usage, or misused them, especially for election purposes, but one have to weigh the advantages vis a viz the disadvantages. Gone are the 60s when the social and educational system are low compared to now where you have an average of three graduates in a family, so people now tends to know their right.”
