The Northern Elders have finally made their feelings known towards PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over his decision to Pick former governor of Anambra state Peter Obi as his running mate for next year’s presidential elections.
In a statement credited to Elder statesman and Chairman of the Northern Elders’ Council (NEC), Alhaji Tanko Yakasai which he said Atiku’s choice is balanced one because Obi is from the east and also a Christian.
He, however, expressed doubt whether the choice of Peter Obi is the collective choice of the majority of the people of the South East. The statement read: “ It was expected all along that the slot of the Vice President should go to the South East for the PDP as APC has chosen the South West.
“What is not ascertained is whether the choice of Peter Obi is the collective choice of the majority of the people of the South East.
Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar has said if elected, he wouldn’t spend months before naming his cabinet. He made this known on Friday, the same day he selected Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, as his running mate.
Atiku also expressed his readiness to have a definite selection of his cabinet members even before his swearing-in as president, if he wins in the 2019 general election.A post on Twitter by the former vice-president read: “If Nigerians elect me as their President, I will not take 6 months before naming my cabinet.He, however, expressed doubt whether the choice of Peter Obi is the collective choice of the majority of the people of the South East.
