BAUCHI — Senator Shehu Buba Umar has challenged his accuser, identified as Hassan, to present evidence backing allegations linking him to terrorist activities, urging relevant authorities to investigate the claims and take appropriate legal action.
The challenge followed the circulation of videos allegedly linked to the senator and claims by Hassan that Shehu Buba has connections with terrorists.
In a statement issued by the senator’s supporters, it was alleged that complaints concerning the allegations and circulation of the videos had been submitted to relevant security authorities since 2025.
The statement further alleged that Hassan, who has continued to make the claims through media platforms, was yet to appear before the security agencies to substantiate them, despite reportedly being invited to present evidence.
The senator’s camp said it had no objection to any investigation or inquiry by the appropriate authorities, urging anyone with credible evidence against him to formally submit it to the security agencies.
“We have no objection to investigations or inquiries by the appropriate authorities,” the statement said.
It maintained that allegations of such a serious nature should be subjected to proper investigation rather than prosecuted through social media or media appearances.
The statement also accused Hassan of attempting to damage the senator’s reputation through what it described as unverified allegations.
It urged the relevant authorities to independently examine the claims and establish the facts, stressing that due process should be followed in determining the veracity of the allegations.
The senator’s supporters warned against the use of allegations they described as baseless and defamatory for political purposes.
“We will not accept the use of baseless allegations, defamation, or the dissemination of unverified information as a political tool to tarnish someone’s reputation,” the statement added.
The development has continued to generate public debate, with the senator’s camp insisting that anyone with evidence against him should present it before the appropriate authorities for investigation rather than circulate the allegations through media platforms.
