Lagos Police Launch Campaign Against Political, Digital Thuggery

The Lagos State Police Command has launched a campaign against political and digital thuggery, urging youths to shun activities capable of undermining peace, security and development in the state.

The campaign was launched on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, during a Peace Walk led by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the initiative was in line with the vision and directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to strengthen police-community partnerships and engage young people as key partners in promoting peace, security and national development.

The International Youth Day event was held under the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” with the Peace Walk bringing together youth groups, community stakeholders and other strategic partners.

Adebisi said the exercise was aimed at sensitising young people to the dangers of political and digital thuggery, drug abuse, cultism and hooliganism, while encouraging them to embrace peace, responsible citizenship and positive engagement.

She added that the Command considered young people important partners in its efforts to maintain peace and security, stressing the need for greater collaboration between the police and youths.

Among the stakeholders who participated in the Peace Walk were representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) and National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

The Command said the engagement formed part of its efforts to promote peaceful youth participation and discourage criminal and violent activities that could threaten the security of Lagos State.
