The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in armed robbery, land grabbing and other violent crimes in Ibadan, recovering firearms and ammunition from him.
The suspect, identified as Arowolo Ademola Adeyemo, popularly known as “Demmy,” was arrested at about 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, following credible intelligence received by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Oyo Base.
The intelligence indicated that members of the syndicate had converged at a hideout in the Soka area of Ibadan.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, in a statement issued on Sunday, August 16, operatives swiftly moved to the location and arrested Adeyemo.
A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of one fabricated English pistol, one long single-barrel gun, nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition and nine live cartridges.
Ayanlade said the suspect, during interrogation, confessed to being involved in land grabbing, armed robbery and other violent crimes.
He added that the confession had provided useful leads towards identifying other members of the gang and establishing the extent of their involvement in related criminal activities.
“Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang who are still at large,” the statement said, adding that the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed the operatives to intensify efforts towards apprehending the remaining members of the gang and bringing them to justice.
The Command also urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in the fight against crime across the state.
