Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has secured a second term in office, defeating his closest challenger, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by 66,252 votes in the 2026 governorship election.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to emerge winner, while Oyebamiji scored 444,815 votes, according to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 LGAs, according to the results announced during the collation.

Reacting to the outcome, the Osun State chapter of the ADC congratulated Adeleke, describing his victory as a reflection of the will of the people.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday and signed by the ADC State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Abdulsalam Abdulkudus, on behalf of the Acting State Chairman, Hon. Okandeji Abideen, the party also congratulated Oyebamiji and other candidates who participated in the election.

The ADC urged Adeleke to use his renewed mandate to promote inclusive governance and consolidate his administration’s achievements for the benefit of the people.

“The people of Osun State have spoken, and their will has prevailed,” the party said.

The party called on Adeleke to sustain and expand efforts in infrastructure, healthcare delivery, education, agriculture, youth empowerment and employment creation.

It also urged the governor to build bridges across political divides and ensure that citizens who did not support his candidacy were not excluded from governance.

“The mandate belongs ultimately to the people of Osun State,” the ADC stated, urging the governor to “build bridges, unite the people, promote inclusive governance and ensure that every citizen, irrespective of political affiliation, has a sense of belonging.”

The party commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, election observers, political parties, candidates, journalists, civil society organisations and the electorate for their roles in the electoral process.

It particularly praised the people of Osun State for participating in the election and urged all stakeholders to maintain peace following the conclusion of the poll.

The ADC said the election should mark the beginning of reconciliation and collective efforts to address the challenges confronting the state rather than deepen political divisions.

“Once again, we congratulate His Excellency, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, on his victory and we congratulate all the gubernatorial candidates for their participation and service to democracy.

“The people have spoken. Their will has prevailed. May Osun State continue to prosper,” the party added.
