Lagos officials uncover illegal shanty clinic on Lagos-Badagry expressway, rescues patient

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), in collaboration with the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos State Task Force and other enforcement agencies, have uncovered a makeshift clinic operating inside a roadside shanty along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The facility was discovered at Barracks Bus Stop area of the expressway on Wednesday during a multi-agency enforcement operation to clear illegal structures and shanties along the major highway.

According to LAGESC, the enforcement team, led by the Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi O. Cole (retd.), discovered a patient receiving treatment through a drip inside the makeshift facility.

The patient, who identified himself simply as Aminu, was subsequently removed from the structure by the enforcement team.

A video posted by Badagry Today showed Aminu shortly after he was rescued from the makeshift clinic.

Following the discovery, Cole, in consultation with personnel of the RRS, Lagos State Task Force and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), ordered the immediate removal of the patient and the dismantling of the structure.

LAGESC said the operation formed part of its ongoing multi-agency enforcement exercise aimed at clearing illegal structures and shanties along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The Corps Marshal expressed concern over the discovery and urged members of the public to avoid patronising unregulated medical facilities, particularly those operating from makeshift structures without proper identification or approval.

He also urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and report activities that could pose risks to public safety and wellbeing.

The development has heightened concerns over activities taking place in roadside shanties along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and the need for sustained enforcement to protect residents and commuters.
