Goods reportedly worth millions of naira were destroyed on Thursday after a fire gutted the electronics section on the second floor of a Justrite Superstore along Akowonjo Road, Egbeda-Akowonjo, Lagos.

The fire broke out at the supermarket located at No. 116, Akowonjo Road, Jimoh Bus Stop, disrupting business activities before firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service brought the blaze under control.

The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday that the agency received a distress call at about 8:15 a.m., while firefighters from the Abesan and Agege Fire Stations arrived at the scene by 8:28 a.m.

According to Adeseye, the fire was confined to the second floor of the commercial building housing the supermarket’s electronics section, where firefighters swiftly deployed equipment to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining parts of the building.

She said the fire had been extinguished, while recovery and mop-up operations were ongoing.

“The fire has been put out as recovery of the remains is ongoing to bring the mop-up exercise to a wrap,” she said.

Adeseye added that preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated from an alternative power source believed to be a solar inverter system.

She, however, confirmed that no casualty was recorded in the incident, while investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.
