Five suspected Aye Cult members arrested in Lagos, weapons, 500 SIM Cards Recovered

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of the Aye Confraternity during an intelligence-led operation along the Ago/Festac Bridge axis of the state, recovering weapons, suspected hard drugs, 500 SIM cards, laptops, mobile phones and charms.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

According to Adebisi, the suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation when police operatives intercepted a Toyota Camry XLE saloon car occupied by Emmanuel John, 24, and David Godwin, 28.

She said a search of the suspects led to the recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs, adding that preliminary interrogation indicated that the duo admitted to being members of the Aye Confraternity.

Adebisi added that further investigation led to the arrest of three other suspects identified as Samuel Owubokiri, 25; Adetona Seyi, 20; and David Chigozie, 25.

She disclosed that items recovered from the suspects included military camouflage, two machetes, one battle axe, one knife, 500 SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops, charms and various substances suspected to be hard drugs.

According to her, the additional suspects also admitted to being members of the Aye Confraternity, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the recovered items, as well as apprehend other members of the group.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state.

“The Lagos State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state,” the commissioner said.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the police to aid crime prevention and enhance public safety.
