Ogun Police arrest three over murder of Ex-OGTV staff, Security Guard

…suspect says killing was meant to teach her a lesson

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, with the principal suspect reportedly confessing that the killing was carried out to “teach her a lesson.”

Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, where he gave an update on the investigation into the double murder.

The suspects were identified as Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.

According to the police commissioner, the principal suspect, Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, while subsequent operations led to the arrest of the two other suspects.

Ojajuni said Philip, during interrogation, admitted participating in the crime and confessed to recruiting the other two suspects.

According to him, the suspect told investigators that he planned the attack following grievances he had with the deceased while working as a security guard in her employment.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to ‘teach her a lesson’,” the CP said.

He explained that the suspects allegedly carried out the attack on June 20 after overpowering the security guard and using him to gain access to the residence.

“The suspects first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access to the residence. Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard,” Ojajuni stated.

The police commissioner said the Command began investigation after receiving a report on June 21 regarding suspicious circumstances at the deceased’s residence.

Detectives who responded to the scene discovered Adetayo’s body inside the security house, while Madam Oyesiku was found lying in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.

Preliminary investigation also revealed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle was missing from the compound.

Ojajuni said the Command thereafter launched intensive intelligence gathering and technical tracking operations, leading to the recovery of the vehicle on June 22.

He said although the ignition key and number plates had been removed, detectives recovered the vehicle’s registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, enabling them to confirm ownership.

The CP further disclosed that a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the perpetrators became a major breakthrough in the investigation.

“One critical piece of evidence recovered from the scene was a handwritten note apparently left behind by the perpetrators. The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads that significantly aided detectives in identifying and tracing those responsible for the crime,” he said.

Further searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects led to the recovery of exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen.

While noting that the suspects had made useful statements and that substantial evidence had been recovered, Ojajuni stressed that they remained entitled to due process under the law.

He added that investigations were ongoing and assured that all those connected with the crime would be diligently prosecuted.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” he said.
