Police seizes 47 sacks of Military camouflage, 80 cartons of illicit drugs In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs, arresting four suspects in what authorities described as a major security breakthrough.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the Command’s operational achievements for June 2026.

Fatai said the suspects were arrested after intelligence reports led operatives to intercept the truck along the Lekki-Epe corridor as it was being moved out of Lagos.

“The vehicle was already moving out of Lagos before we intercepted it,” the commissioner said, adding that preliminary investigation indicated that the consignment was headed for a destination in the eastern part of the country.

He, however, said investigations were ongoing to uncover the source, intended recipients and other persons connected with the shipment.

The police commissioner expressed concern over the movement of military camouflage uniforms, noting that criminals and bandits have often been found using such attire to perpetrate crimes in different parts of the country.

The interception formed part of a series of operations carried out by the Command in June, which also led to the recovery of 14 firearms, four live cartridges, 51 mobile phones, two vehicle engine control units (ECU), an operational motorcycle and vandalised electrical cables.

Fatai also disclosed that police operatives arrested suspects in Ayetoro-Ijanikin following complaints from residents who reported the presence of suspicious persons within their community.

According to him, the operation led to the recovery of two double-barrel guns and six locally made single-barrel guns, while investigations into the activities of the suspects are ongoing.

On illegal immigration, the police commissioner said 38 foreign nationals were taken into custody for profiling after operatives received intelligence about their activities.

The group comprised 14 Chadians, nine Burkinabes, four Beninese, four Malians, two Togolese, two Cameroonians and one Ghanaian.

Fatai said few of the foreign nationals possessed ECOWAS travel documents, while others were suspected to have entered the country illegally.

“All they could tell us is that they are into networking. What networking is all about, I don’t know,” he said.

He added that the individuals were being profiled by the State Criminal Investigation Department before being handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further action.

The Command also uncovered a suspected financier behind a notorious “One Chance” robbery syndicate operating in Lagos.

Fatai said investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly rented vehicles for gang members and deployed them to various locations for criminal operations.

“We are on the trail of that godfather for now. We are still closing up on him and in no distant time, I am very sure we will get at him,” he said.

The commissioner assured residents that the police would sustain intelligence-led operations across the state, stressing that there would be no safe haven for criminal elements in Lagos.
