Viral video prompts security review at Pan-Atlantic University as Lagos Police deploy surveillance measures

The Lagos State Police Command has intensified security measures around Pan-Atlantic University, Lekki, following public concern generated by a viral video showing two masked individuals emerging from a forested area adjoining the institution.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, on Tuesday led operational personnel on an on-the-spot security assessment of the university, where he met with the institution’s management and reviewed existing security arrangements.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

According to the statement, the police commissioner emphasised the need for the university to strengthen its security architecture and adopt additional measures to prevent potential security breaches.

“He advised on practical measures to tighten security across the institution,” the statement said, adding that the commissioner also cautioned against actions that could undermine existing security efforts.

As part of efforts to reinforce security within the area, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, has deployed surveillance drones to support police operations around the university and adjoining communities.

The police said the drones would enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and crime prevention efforts in response to concerns raised by the viral footage.

CP Fatai reassured the university’s management, students, staff and parents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the institution to improve perimeter security, strengthen access control systems and sustain close collaboration with security agencies.

The commissioner further reiterated the command’s resolve to maintain public safety across Lagos State and encouraged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible and timely information.
