A woman who sustained fractures in a hit-and-run accident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Monday was rescued and evacuated to hospital by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The victim, whose identity was not immediately known, suffered injuries to her arm and leg after being knocked down by a motorist at EFF Bus Stop inward Marwa. The driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.
In a statement issued by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the agency said its officers promptly responded to the incident, securing the victim and coordinating emergency assistance.
According to the statement, officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) were alerted and arrived at the scene to evacuate the injured woman to General Hospital, Odan, for treatment.
LASTMA said its personnel also managed traffic around the accident scene to prevent further crashes and ease vehicular movement along the busy corridor.
Commenting on the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the growing incidence of hit-and-run cases, describing them as both morally wrong and punishable under the law.
“Every motorist bears an inherent civic and moral obligation to uphold the sanctity of human life. Fleeing the scene of an accident after causing injury to another road user is not only an abdication of responsibility but also a grievous affront to humanity and the rule of law,” he said.
Bakare-Oki commended the swift collaboration between LASTMA and LASAMBUS personnel, noting that the prompt response helped ensure the victim received urgent medical attention.
He also urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, comply with traffic regulations and promptly report accidents and emergencies to relevant authorities.
