Ogun Police arrest seven suspects, recover firearm in statewide security operations

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in a series of coordinated operations across Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba and Agbado areas of the state, recovering a locally fabricated firearm, stolen property and other exhibits linked to various criminal activities.

The arrests were made during intelligence-led operations targeting armed robbery, house breaking, stealing, conspiracy and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

Among those arrested were Pelumi Akintande, 21; Mojeed Sanusi, 28; and Mubarak Lateef, 17, who were allegedly involved in an armed robbery incident at Alasia Community in Sango-Ota.

The police said the suspects were tracked and apprehended following credible information from members of the public after a resident was reportedly attacked and dispossessed of valuables.

“A locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and one expended cartridge allegedly used in the operation were recovered,” the statement said, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Owode-Egba Division arrested Damilare Makanjuola, 22, in connection with an alleged case of house breaking and stealing in Ofada.

According to the police, the suspect was arrested after allegedly scaling a fence and attempting to gain unlawful access into a shop. Further investigations reportedly linked him to other burglary incidents within Sun City Estate, Ofada, where electrical appliances, cash exceeding N100,000 and other personal valuables were stolen.

The command said recovered items had been secured as exhibits while investigations continued.

Also arrested were Tijani Jubril, 28, and Ezra Modi, 22, for alleged conspiracy and stealing within Treasure Island Estate in Awo Village.

The police stated that the suspects were intercepted while attempting to dispose of stolen electrical appliances concealed in a sack.

“The stolen items were recovered intact, and preliminary investigation indicates forced entry into the premises,” the statement added.

In another development, operatives of the Agbado Division arrested Waris Adebesin, 22, for alleged conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and threatening violence.

Police said the suspect was found armed with a knife and allegedly creating tension around a secondary school environment before he was arrested.

The command noted that the swift intervention of officers prevented panic and ensured the safety of students, staff and residents in the area.

Reacting to the successes recorded, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism, prompt response and discipline during the operations.

He also praised residents for providing timely information that aided the arrests.

The police commissioner assured residents that the achievements formed part of a sustained statewide strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing public safety.

“The Police equally sympathise with affected victims and assure them that justice will be pursued diligently and without compromise,” the statement said.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly.

All suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons connected with the various offences, according to the statement.
