Ogun Police arrest security guard over alleged theft of company spare parts

A 32-year-old security guard, Friday Ayuba, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing motor spare parts belonging to his employer in Ita-Asu Village, via Owode-Egba.

The suspect was apprehended following a report made to the Owode-Egba Division by the management of the affected company after he was intercepted by operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) at the Sagamu Interchange along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the suspect was allegedly caught in possession of company property while attempting to move them without authorization.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Ayuba, an employee of the company, was found with four air controls, two air boosters, two engine seats and two fuel pumps, all identified as property of the company.

Babaseyi said the suspect allegedly confessed to the theft during interrogation, while detectives visited the scene and secured the recovered items as exhibits.

He added that the suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the vigilance of the company’s management as well as the swift response of the Quick Response Squad and officers of the Owode-Egba Division, which led to the recovery of the stolen items and the arrest of the suspect.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting businesses and residents through intelligence-led policing and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
