The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a special tactical security outfit, codenamed “Command Sweepers Squad,” to tackle rising criminal activities in Ikorodu and adjoining communities.

The command said the intervention followed growing concerns and complaints by residents over increasing incidents of crime in parts of the area.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police said the squad was created as a temporary security measure to restore public confidence and strengthen crime-fighting operations in the axis.

According to the statement, the outfit comprises personnel drawn from the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF and 63 PMF, alongside other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

“The Squad is strategically situated in Ijede to ensure swift deployment and easy access to all parts of Ikorodu and adjoining communities for effective crime prevention and rapid response operations,” the statement said.

The command added that the squad had been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund to enhance operational effectiveness.

The police said operatives had already been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts to conduct intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search operations and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements.

“The Commissioner of Police assures residents that the operation will be conducted professionally and in line with the rule of law,” the statement added.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information through the command’s emergency lines.
