Hawker killed, 7 injured in Lagos crashes as LASTMA swings into action

A roadside hawker was killed in a fatal crash at Okokomaiko, while seven passengers were injured in a separate accident at Ogudu inward Toll Gate, prompting swift rescue operations by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq.

According to the statement, the Okokomaiko incident involved a Lexus SUV with registration number SMK 674 HY, which struck and killed the unidentified trader.

LASTMA officials quickly secured the scene and evacuated the victim’s remains to restore traffic flow, while operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Ketu Division, later conveyed the body to Badagry Mortuary.


In a separate crash at Ogudu inward Toll Gate, a Mazda commercial bus (MUS 231 YA) collided with a Lexus Jeep (FKJ 23 HL), leaving seven passengers injured.

Emergency responders, including personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service, promptly evacuated the victims to nearby hospitals, while security operatives from Ogudu Division supported rescue efforts.

All vehicles involved have been handed over to the police for investigation.

Reacting, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid speeding and remain alert, especially at night.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to saving lives and ensuring traffic order across Lagos roads.
