Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested four suspects and recovered firearms and cartridges in a series of intelligence-led operations across Mowe, Sagamu and Odeda, as part of a sustained crackdown on cultism and violent crime in the state.

The arrests and recoveries were disclosed in a press statement issued on Sunday, April 19, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

According to the statement, operatives of the Mowe Division on April 14 arrested a 36-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, at Mowe Bus Stop following credible intelligence. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel pistol, one expended cartridge and charms concealed in his bag. The suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.

In Sagamu, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) recorded two separate arrests along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road. On April 17, officers on stop-and-search duty at the Lafarge axis intercepted a motorcycle rider, Asaye Ajibola, 30, and recovered a locally made firearm loaded with nine cartridges.

The following day, another rider, Adedeji Olufemi, 49, was arrested at the same axis with a locally made double-barrel gun and eight cartridges after failing to give a satisfactory account of the weapon.

In a related development, a shooting incident at the Sawmill area of Osiele in Odeda Local Government Area on April 18 led to the arrest of a local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku. The suspect allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally while returning from the farm, injuring three persons. The victims were rushed to medical facilities and are reported to be in stable condition.

Police said the firearm used in the incident was recovered through collaboration with the Amotekun Corps.

All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations against unlawful possession of firearms and other criminal activities, while urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely information.
