PRESS STATEMENT

Ondo NURTW Boss arrested, Assembly Members commend Police

We the Honorable Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, loyal to new Leadership of Rt. Hon. Olamide George and Rt Hon Abimbola Fajolu hereby commend the Inspector General of Police over the arrest of the Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of the NURTW, Jacob Adebo, popularly known as Idajo over the violent attack on the members and staff of the assembly as well as journalists and their wanton destruction of properties at the Assembly Conplex on Friday November 9th, 2018.

You will recall that the legislative arm of the Ondo State government has been in the news recently when a constitutionally required 18-member signed impeachment Notice, was successfully presented and passed against the Rt Hon Oleyeloogun and Rt Hon Iroju Ogundeji, the erstwhile Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.

We hereby express our gratitude to the good people of Ondo State for standing with us at this period when Democracy was visited with serious assault with the brigandage unleashed on the sacred institution of the Legislature of the State by Idajo and his men at the behest and instigation of some faceless, nameless and unconscionable alleged government staff. Since then, our beautiful State of Ondo has been crying for help.

We hereby remind the world that Idajo led more than 200 thugs brandishing dangerous weapons to inflict bodily injuries on honourable members, staff, journalists and visitors to the assembly complex on the said date. As a matter of fact, a DSS operative whose bravery led to the rescue of some of the members was manhandled in the melee, while vehicles and other properties worth several millions of naira were destroyed.

We are therefore not surprised at the happy celebration and profound joy and relief that enveloped the entire city of Akure over the arrest of Idajo by the good men and officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Force CID, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos.

It has been a mystery why just one individual would have the power to hold an entire state to ransom with his nefarious activities such that he decides who or who does not live in Ondo State. His dimension of thuggery in the last two years is a huge concern to citizens and residents of the entire State in general and those of Akure in particular but we are confident that with his arrest, security and peace will return to Ondo State.

Our sincere hope is that the police investigation will be thorough, such that Idajo and his gang of hoodlums will be apprehended, prosecuted and punished according to the law of the land, so that our state will be totally free from the brigandage and terrorism which had held sway under the direction of the NURTW.

Even as we appreciate the Police for their efforts to apprehend this criminally-minded individual, we humbly urge them to ensure that the course of justice is not derailed and that the efforts of certain principalities and powers in high places to subvert justice is frustrated. It will be a catastrophe and a major dent on the image of the Nigeria Police if they are allowed to succeed.

We wish to state that till date, some of our colleagues are still receiving treatment for one injury or another and we continue to pray for their full recovery.

We are again using this medium to request for police protection for ourselves and family members, as we have received death threats after we decisively and collectively changed the leadership of the House, a situation which has been worsened by the arrest of Idajo. We state categorically that his minions are at work again.

We remain convinced that we are on the good side of history in this quest to bring sanity and independence to the legislative arm of government in our dear State.

We reiterate our readiness and preparedness to resume our legislative duties in this new week.

Thank you all
God Bless Ondo State.
Hon. Araoyinbo Olugbenga
