Ondo APC members to support AA, PDP candidates

As a fallout of the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, there are indications that members of the party might support opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Action Alliance, AA candidates in the 2019 elections.

Political analysts said this might not be unconnected to the interest of the State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, who was reportedly aggrieved for losing many of his loyalists to the AA and PDP due to the decision of the APC NWC to give out automatic tickets and refuse to hold primary election in the state.

It was reported that as a result of the leadership crisis in the party, some aggrieved members of the APC had dumped and defected to the AA and the PDP and some other opposition parties. Thereafter, the defectors were offered tickets to contest for various positions.

It could be recalled that former senator, Ayo Akinyelure, senatorial aspirants of the APC, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, Dr. Olatunji Fedar, among other aspirants loyal to Governor Akeredolu were said to have dumped APC when the National Working Committee of the party gave automatic senatorial tickets to the serving senators in the state.

Another aggrieved member of the Party who made the lists of the defectors is the serving House of Representatives member in Akoko North Federal Constituency, Hon. Stephen Friday Olemija who also recently left APC to join AA when he was denied returning ticket, as the party picked Bunmi Tunji Ojo

Source within the party, told our reporter that a number of chieftains of the APC were already working for the PDP and AA’s candidates ahead the forthcoming elections.

The source said, “Our members will not work for any APC candidates in the election, particularly Senators Ajayi Boroffice and Yele Omogunwa. We all know that the two senators are not loyal party members, so, let them go and work for themselves.

“It was the injustice in the APC that pushed Abayomi and Fedar and some others out of the party. With that, how do you expect us to work for the APC candidates in the election? We will only work for President Buhari’s election and some of our loyal candidates. But our members who are now in AA, PDP and other parties will have our support.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of the APC in Ondo State, Mr Ade Adetimehin, has denied such move, saying that no party members or chieftains will be allowed to play anti party activities politics in the State.
