Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Nigeria has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth and development, expressing confidence in the country’s resilience and its capacity to provide opportunities for sustainable business growth.
The company’s General Manager, Abdallah Simba, stated this on Wednesday, October 8, 2026, while reflecting on JTI’s 18 years of operations in Nigeria and the significance of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Simba said Nigeria remained an important market for JTI, adding that the company’s continued operations in the country reflected its confidence in Nigeria’s long-term economic prospects.
He said the company was determined to maintain a responsible and sustainable business presence in Nigeria while contributing to the creation of long-term value for its employees, business partners and other stakeholders.
“Our commitment to Nigeria goes beyond our business operations. As Nigeria celebrates the important milestone of its 66th independence, we recognise the importance of building a responsible and sustainable enterprise that contributes positively to the country’s development while creating long-term value for our employees, partners and stakeholders,” Simba said.
The JTI Nigeria boss said the company’s operating philosophy was anchored on responsible corporate conduct, regulatory compliance, ethical business practices and constructive engagement with stakeholders.
He explained that high standards of corporate governance and respect for the regulatory environment remained central to JTI’s operations, particularly given the highly regulated nature of the industry in which the company operates.
Simba also stressed the importance of employee development, saying JTI was committed to building an inclusive workplace where its workforce could benefit from professional development opportunities, diversity and equal opportunity.
He said the company also promoted a culture of mutual respect among its employees, describing its people as an important part of its efforts to build a sustainable enterprise in Nigeria.
According to him, responsible corporate citizenship was essential to building businesses capable of creating lasting value, particularly in highly regulated industries where compliance, transparency and accountability were fundamental to sustainable operations.
Simba said JTI’s commitment to Nigeria would continue to extend beyond its commercial interests, noting that the company recognised the importance of contributing positively to the wider development of the country.
He expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to navigate its evolving economic environment, stressing that the country’s resilience and potential could support sustainable business opportunities in the years ahead.
Simba therefore reaffirmed JTI Nigeria’s determination to strengthen its relationships with stakeholders, maintain responsible corporate practices and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s long-term economic aspirations.
JTI Nigeria is part of Japan Tobacco International, a global tobacco and vaping company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with operations in more than 130 countries.
