Ogun Police arrest 11, recover firearms, vehicles, 25 ATM cards

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects and recovered three firearms, two suspected stolen vehicles and 25 ATM cards in a series of operations conducted across the state within 11 days.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the operations were carried out between September 16 and 26, 2026.

According to him, the command also recovered several mobile phones and assorted electrical materials, while eight vehicles were impounded during a “No Parking” enforcement operation at the Sagamu Interchange Bridge.

Babaseyi said detectives attached to Owode Egba Division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle at Mokoloki Village on September 17, following a complaint received the previous day. Two suspects, Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye, were arrested in connection with the alleged theft, while an accomplice identified as Saheed remained at large.

He said operatives of Olorunda Division also arrested Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, on September 19, after intercepting three persons allegedly conveying stolen electrical materials on a motorcycle along Ayetoro Road.

The police spokesman said bundles of electrical wiring, a change-over electrical box and a circuit breaker box were recovered, while another suspect, identified as Tosin, escaped.

He further disclosed that operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit arrested Olamide Ayandele, 30, Tope Samuel, 40, and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30, on September 21, after intercepting an unregistered tricycle and a TVS motorcycle around Dalemo, Ota.

According to him, preliminary investigation linked the suspects to alleged vehicle theft around the Ijoko axis, with efforts ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons who may be connected with the alleged activities.

Babaseyi said the Igbesa Division arrested Ameachine Anthony, 45, on September 22 over an alleged N2.5 million fraud, recovering 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones from him.

He said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect allegedly used utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards, through associates, to facilitate bank accounts, after which the ATM cards were allegedly collected for fraudulent transactions.

The suspect and exhibits were subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Also on September 22, SWAT operatives arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, following information about an alleged cult-related gathering.

Babaseyi said further investigation led to the arrest of Adebayo Sodiq, 36, and the recovery of one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.

He added that detectives of the Ijebu-Ode Area Crime Office recovered a Safira vehicle reportedly taken from its owner and arrested Olatunji Olalekan following discreet investigation, intelligence gathering and tracking.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Sagamu Area Command and adjoining divisions impounded eight vehicles on September 26 during a “No Parking” operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge.

According to Babaseyi, the vehicles were found obstructing the highway and were impounded to facilitate free traffic flow and improve safety for road users.

He said the affected vehicles would be processed for prosecution on September 28, while similar enforcement operations would continue as necessary.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, as well as members of the public for their cooperation.

Ojajuni, according to the statement, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police.
