Ogun Police arrest Five over Ado-Odo shop burglaries

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with separate shop burglary incidents in the Ado-Odo area of the state, recovering stolen foodstuffs and other items.

The suspects include three teenagers arrested after allegedly breaking into a market stall and two others apprehended in connection with multiple shop burglaries across the area.

The command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

According to him, the first incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on September 2, when concerned community members alerted the police after a watchman noticed suspicious movements inside a market stall.

Police patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene, where they arrested 15-year-old Lateef Kalid and 16-year-old Kareem Jamal inside the shop. Stolen foodstuffs and other items were recovered from them.

Opeyemi said further interrogation led to the arrest of another suspect, 14-year-old Sofiu Alabi, who allegedly admitted providing the key used to gain access to the shop.

He added that the three suspects had been charged to court.

In a related development, local security operatives of the So-Safe Corps on September 4 apprehended two teenagers, 16-year-old Taofik Abioro and 15-year-old Ogundele Monday, and handed them over to police detectives.

The police said preliminary interrogation showed that the two suspects confessed to participating in multiple shop burglaries across Ado-Odo.

Subsequent searches conducted at their premises also led to the recovery of additional stolen items, while the case was referred for further investigation.

The command said efforts were ongoing to track down an accomplice who is still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the Ado-Odo Division for their swift response, while also praising the So-Safe Corps and members of the community for their cooperation.

Ojajuni stressed the importance of collaboration among security agencies and community stakeholders in disrupting criminal networks.

He particularly urged parents, guardians and community leaders to exercise firm supervision over young persons to prevent them from becoming involved in crime.

The commissioner also advised business owners to strengthen security around their premises and promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities.
