Ogun Police kill two suspected kidnappers, rescue abducted truck driver

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted professional truck driver during a counter-tactical operation along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.

The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of live ammunition, two mobile phones and N2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.

The Ogun State Police Command disclosed this in a statement signed by its Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, in Abeokuta on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The command said the victim was abducted at about 11:10 p.m. on August 25, 2026, at Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.

According to the statement, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately commenced efforts to secure the victim’s release and apprehend the perpetrators following the report of the incident.

It said operatives, acting on actionable intelligence, later stormed the kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road, leading to a gun battle in which two suspected members of the gang were killed.

The command added that other members of the gang fled the scene with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

A search of the hideout, according to the police, led to the recovery of the two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two mobile phones and N2 million in cash.

The command said the corpses of the two suspects had been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while efforts had been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing gang members.

Commending the operatives for their gallantry, professionalism and courage, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the operation reinforced the command’s resolve to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals.

Ojajuni declared that Ogun State would remain a hostile terrain for criminal elements, assuring residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and strategic partnerships with communities to protect lives and property.

He also urged residents to remain security-conscious and provide timely and credible information to the police, particularly on persons seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, to assist efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
