Lagos Govt Warns Against Fake School Transfer Agents, Fixes Fees

The Lagos State Government has warned parents and guardians against individuals circulating fake electronic flyers on social media and claiming to facilitate the transfer of pupils and students between private and public schools or from one public school to another in the state.

The warning was contained in a public disclaimer issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, which said such individuals were not staff or representatives of the ministry.

The ministry consequently advised members of the public not to patronise or make payments to such persons, urging parents and guardians to rely only on official channels for school transfer-related information.

For any school transfer, the ministry directed applicants to visit the 4th Floor, Block 5, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Alausa, Ikeja, to obtain complete information on the approved procedures.

It also released the requirements and approved fees for transfers into government junior and senior secondary schools.

For SS1 applicants, the requirements include first- and second-term results and the BECE examination number of the JS3 student, while JS2 applicants are required to present their second- and third-term results.

Other requirements are a birth certificate, passport photograph and an application letter addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Alausa, Ikeja.

The approved fees are N5,000 for transfers from one public school to another, whether junior or senior secondary school; N10,000 for transfers from private schools to public junior secondary schools; and N20,000 for transfers from private schools to public senior secondary schools.

The ministry also stated that transfers to model colleges are now closed.

It urged parents, guardians and members of the public to be properly informed and rely only on official channels for school transfer-related matters, warning them against dealing with unauthorised individuals.
