Ikola Road Violence: Police Restore Calm, Deploy Security Operatives

The Lagos State Police Command has restored normalcy to the Ikola axis of the state following a violent clash on Thursday that left three persons dead, two others injured and some buildings reportedly burnt.

The incident, according to the Command, began when some suspected area boys allegedly stopped a tricycle rider and demanded ₦200 from him.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebesi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, August 27, 2026, saying the rider allegedly refused to pay, after which the group reportedly seized his tricycle.

Adebesi said the rider later returned with some persons, leading to a violent confrontation between the two groups.

“Sadly, three (3) persons were reportedly killed, while two (2) others sustained injuries. Some buildings were also reportedly set ablaze during the ensuing violence,” she stated.

She added that the deceased and injured persons had been taken to the Military Hospital, Yaba, for necessary medical attention and other procedures.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, accompanied by the Commander, 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Afolabi Owolabi, visited the scene to assess the situation and coordinate the security response.

Following the incident, the Command deployed operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, Taskforce, Tactical Squad, Police Mobile Force, Eko Strike Force and the Violent Crime Response Unit to the area to maintain law and order.

According to the statement, the situation is now “firmly under control”, while security personnel have been deployed for continuous monitoring to prevent further escalation.

The Police Command has also commenced an investigation into the incident and vowed to ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.

The Command urged residents to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information and avoid actions capable of further escalating the situation.

It also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
